What the work involves
- Planning output across casting, filing, setting, polishing and finishing.
- Controlling metal issue and return and investigating losses above the norm.
- Managing supervisors and karigars, including job work given outside.
- Reporting to the owners on output, losses, quality and delivery.
How to get hired
- Long experience in jewellery manufacturing, with several years leading a department.
- Clear numbers on metal loss and on time delivery from your current unit.
- Knowledge of the processes and machines in a modern factory, including CAD and casting.
The next step is head of production or plant head across several units, and at family firms often a seat in running the business. Some production managers move to sourcing or quality at large retail brands.
