What the work involves
- Writing and maintaining inspection standards for purity, finish, setting and weight.
- Running inspection at each stage of production and signing off finished lots.
- Handling buyer audits, inspection reports and corrective actions with production.
- Training checkers and tracking rejection rates by department and karigar.
How to get hired
- Experience in jewellery manufacturing quality, or in another precision manufacturing trade.
- Knowledge of hallmarking, assaying and the testing equipment a factory uses.
- Firmness: quality roles have to stop a lot that production wants to ship.
Quality executives become quality managers and then heads of quality for a group of units. Experience with buyer audits at an export house is the strongest step up, and some move into compliance or sourcing roles.
